The NYC bus station, better known as the NYC Port Authority Bus Terminal, is located in Manhattan and is not only the largest bus station in the country, but also the busiest in the world.
On a normal day, the Port Authority or PABT, serves more than 225,000 people on about 8,000 buses.
The terminal is active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, however, the south wing is closed from 1 am to 5:30 am, so all departures will be available in the north wing and only ticketed passengers will be able to enter during this time.
It is also important for you to know that during this time, buses may depart from a different gate than they have assigned the rest of the day, so we recommend you check any gate changes directly with the bus company.

The Port Authority Terminal of New York is located one block west of Times Square and is the busiest terminal in the entire United States. In addition to the ticket offices of the different bus operators, it has ATMs, charging areas for electronic devices and WiFi as well as establishments such as pharmacies, restaurants, bank, etc. Next, we will show you the map of the 4 levels and two underground floors of this great terminal.
It is allowed to enter with service animals such as guide dogs or any other animal trained to support people with disabilities. Pets must be allowed by the bus operator, which may possibly have specific rules for their entry. In addition, they must attend in a safe carrier for travel.
The Port Authority Terminal has free Red Caps assistance 24 hours a day, which offer wheelchair accompaniment or luggage support for people with difficulty moving around the facilities.
The restaurants and bathrooms of the terminal comply with the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and the vast majority of bus doors are fully accessible. You can check all the accessibility measures of the Port Authority of New York at this link
There are many ways to get from the International Airport to Port Authority. The most economical is to travel by AirTrain. From the station located at the international airport, take the train to Jamaica station, then, you will take a second train from Jamaica to New York Penn station a few blocks from the Port Authority station (approximately 10 minutes walk). In total this trip takes 40 to 60 minutes, and you will spend between $8 to $20 per person.
You can also opt for the taxi service that will take you directly to any destination, including the PABT. There are different companies that offer this service.
You can know the rates on the official airport website. But in summary, the trip lasts on average 1 hour and costs between $100 to $120.
Finally, we also recommend the bus service that goes directly from the airport to the Port Authority, you find them as NYC Airporter Bus and MJT Express Bus.
Both companies are safe and reliable, you can buy tickets online or directly when boarding the bus. The travel time is 1 hour to 1 hour and a half.
